Rita Gwyn Pettigrew was a dedicated individual who was born in Austin, Texas. She spent her early years moving between Lubbock, TX and Tahoka, TX before eventually returning to Lubbock. Rita's passion for education led her to pursue a degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
After completing her education, Rita pursued a career in teaching. She dedicated over 20 years of her life to teaching physical education in various cities across Texas and upstate New York. Her love for physical activity and the outdoors was apparent in her teaching style, as she encouraged her students to lead healthy and active lifestyles.
Upon her retirement, Rita embarked on a new adventure - traveling the world. She had the opportunity to travel around the globe not once, but twice. One of her most cherished memories was her time in Antarctica, where she had close encounters with adorable penguins. Additionally, she enjoyed hiking in the Adirondacks, a mountain range in northeastern New York. Her passion for hiking led her to become a member of the exclusive 46er club, which comprises individuals who have successfully climbed all 46 peaks in the Adirondacks that are over 4000 feet.
Rita's love for sailing was another prominent aspect of her life. For more than 24 years, she owned and sailed a sailboat while residing in upper New York. This hobby brought her joy and allowed her to explore the vast waters of the area.
Despite her busy life, Rita always made time to give back to her community. For over 25 years, she dedicated herself to delivering meals to those in need through the Meals on Wheels program. Her selflessness and commitment to helping others made a significant impact on the lives of many.
Rita Gwyn Pettigrew lived a fulfilling life, filled with adventure, education, and community service. She will be remembered for her love of travel, her passion for teaching, and her kind-hearted nature.
