Arlene Frances (DeYoung) Howe was born in Paris Township on September 17, 1932, to David William & Opal Priscilla DeYoung. Arlene graduated from Goodwin High School in 1952 and married Kenneth Eugene Howe in 1954 and had three children Kenneth George, Kimberly Elaine, and Michael David. Arlene was a godly mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and loyal friend who loved and honored the Lord with her life and unconditionally loved her family with all her heart. Arlene lived 88 years in Michigan and was a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church prior to moving to Texas to live with her daughter. During her time in Texas, Pastor Dan Borkenhagen from Hope Lutheran Church in Lubbock, Texas faithfully came each month to visit her and give her communion. She loved “Pastor Dan” and they developed a very special relationship this past year.
Arlene was 89 years old when she passed peacefully from her home in Texas and was received into her loving Savior’s arms on June 14, 2022.
She is survived by her children and spouses Kenneth & Teresa, Tom & Kimberly, Michael & Lynda, grandchildren and spouses Kenneth & Hannah, Patrick & Bethany, Adam & Ashley, Ashton, Lyndie, Ruthie, and 13 great grandchildren. She was also a dearly loved aunt survived by Rick & Karen, Rod & Shirlee, Tom & Margaret, Pam, Melode, Tony & Chrissy, and Tom & Cindy.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents David & Opal, sister and brother-in-law Gordon & Merna, brother David, brother and sister-in-law Irving “Ace” & Barbara, nephew Tim, and niece Laureen.
One of Arlene’s favorite bible verses was Psalm 52:8-9, “But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.”
The funeral will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Howard City, Michigan on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception for family and friends at the church. Graveside services will be held following the reception at Oak Grove Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
