Arnold Lee Fry, 73, of Lubbock, passed away suddenly on January 14, 2024 at Covenant Medical Center.
Arnold was born on April 12, 1950 to Doyle Truman Fry and Flora Fuqua Fry in Crosbyton, Texas. He
grew up for the first few years of his life in Spur, then moved with the family to Post, where he
graduated high school in 1969. He started working for the Highway Department and married Elizabeth
Irene Walls in 1971. They went on to have one son, Jayson Lee Fry, and were married for 31 years.
Arnold retired from the State and went to work for the City of Post. He was also on the Post Volunteer
Fire Department for over 3 decades, and was the Emergency Management Coordinator for many years
for Garza County. He spent many hours volunteering for the little league as well as the Boy Scouts of
America, coaching teams and leading dens of young men.
Arnold was a wonderful father and was always helping others in need. He was honest and stubborn, and
was always there for his son and grandkids in any way he could be. He was always bragging on his
grandkids to anyone that would listen.
Arnold moved to Lubbock and married Virginia Francis in 2003. He began working for Lone Star Auto
Auction in 2005 and was a fixture there until the moment of his passing. Arnold loved to fish, smoke
cheese, and collect anything western. If he wasn’t working, he could be found out on his patio having a
drink and watching his wildlife. He had a love for animals, and was feeding every stray in the
neighborhood. He had his 2 dogs, up to 15 cats, a possum, a couple of foxes, and even some skunks.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, and widowed by Virginia in 2021. He is survived by his son,
Jayson and his “daughter” Geri of Post along with 3 grandkids, Miranda, Jaycob and Dylan. He was also
survived by his only sister, Doylene Shumard Wilborn, of Post along with nieces Stacy, Becky and Tracy,
their spouses and children.
There will be a memorial service at Highland Baptist Church, 4316 34th Street, in Lubbock, on Friday,
January 19th at 3:00 PM.
