Dean Benson, 83, of Lubbock, departed this life on October 21, 2022. An informal Celebration of Life in his honor will be held in the Fellowship Hall at 12th Street Church of Christ, Shallowater, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022. The gathering will pause at 2:30 for a brief formal remembrance.
Dean was born May 16, 1939, in Lampasas, Texas, to Bill and Viola (Arms) Benson. He married Sandra (Stubbs) Benson on September 21, 1957, and they recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. They were the parents of three daughters: Cindy of Troy, Sylvia Joyce and Teresa, both of Lubbock. In addition to his wife and daughters, Dean was survived by 7 grandchildren: Jarrod, Jason, Travis, Sarah, Chalanda, Isaiah, and Onica. He was also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and by two brothers: William of Abernathy, and Ernest of Lubbock. Dean was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Gracie Mays and Catherine Johnson.
Dean was a trucker by profession and was always a hard worker. He was the owner/operator of Dean Benson Trucking. He enjoyed camping and fishing, especially at Hords Creek Lake west of Coleman.
Dean was a dedicated Christian and served several years as an elder at Wolfforth Church of Christ. He was a member of 12th Street Church of Christ in Shallowater for the past 15 years.
