JoAnn Pennington

JoAnn Downer Pennington was born July 14, 1933 in Texola, Oklahoma to Burt and Meredith Downer.  She grew up in Stinnett, Texas where she met and married her husband Glenn Pennington. They moved to Lubbock in 1967. Following her graduation from Texas Tech in 1970, she taught two years in New Deal. The remainder of her career was spent as the librarian at Tahoka High School.  She was a longstanding member of Trinity Church. After Glenn’s death in 2009 she moved to Raider Ranch where she died peacefully on March 8, 2024 at the age of 90.

She is survived by son Michael Pennington of Colorado Springs, CO; son Jay Pennington and wife Carla of Georgetown, TX; and daughter Mickie Klafka of Lubbock, TX; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; sister Kay Stone and husband Gary of Kentucky; one niece and one nephew. 

A private memorial was held graveside at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Lubbock.  If you’d like, contributions can be made to any charity of your choice.
