Johnny Findley Sr Obituary

Johnny Rex Findley, Sr. of Shallowater, Texas, passed away in the care of Covenant Hospital Palliative Care Services in Lubbock, Texas on August 31, 2021 after a brief illness.  He was born November 25, 1947 in Lubbock, Texas to James Randle and Pat Stone Findley.  Johnny married Deanna Gail Brattain August 30, 1980 in Mingus, Texas.  They eventually moved to Shallowater where they spent most of their years together raising their family.

Johnny was a quiet man, a man who listened a lot and spoke a little.  However, when he spoke everyone listened – not because he was loud or boisterous – but because he was sincere and genuine.  Johnny loved family and friends the most in his life.  Even though he may not have expressed it often or well, he always had a big heart for those he cared for so dearly. The smile on his face or the pleasant surprise in his voice said it all.

Johnny was a carpenter, specializing in framing houses (he was said to be the best framer ever) and he was a master cabinet builder.  He was an active member of the West Texas Native American Association of Lubbock.  He and his wife, Gail, loved participating in Native American Pow Wows and other Native American events, traveling as often as they could to participate.  He also loved camping, fishing, and traveling with Gail – especially traveling to Colorado.  Johnny also loved to build things, but not just houses and cabinets.  He loved building and playing with toy planes, trains and cars.  He was also a Boy Scout when he was a child.

Johnny was also very fond of his animals through the years.  He had several dogs and other animals around the house over the years.

His wife, Gail, preceded him in death in 2016.  In addition, he was preceded in death by his father Randle Findley and mother Pat Stone Blewett; his grandparents; his sister Nancy Coker; and great-nephew Jason Workman.

He is survived by five children - Leslie Gayle Brown and husband David of Olustee, Oklahoma; Johnny Rex Findley, Jr. and wife Nashanna of Livingston, Texas; Brian Lee Findley of Lubbock, Texas; Becky Jo Galloway and husband Joe of Eustace, Texas; and April Marie Metz of Lubbock, Texas.  His sister Randy Elliott, sister Sissy Moore and husband Randle, and brother Tommy Blewett and wife Cherie also survive Johnny.  In addition, 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and a multitude of great friends over the years, survive him. Johnny also has two great grandsons on the way.

A memorial service will be held September 17, 2021 at 2:00pm at Agape Funeral Home, 6625 19th Street #103, Lubbock, Texas.
