On September 1, 2020 Martha Zoe Pickerel passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Martha was born May 14, 1939 in Sulphur Bluff, Texas. She was the daughter of Alfred and Wilda South of Lovington, NM. Martha is survived by her husband Allen Pickerel, son Tim Pickerel and wife Kathy, son Larry Pickerel and wife Norma, son Terry Pickerel and daughter Amy Montanez and husband Michael, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother Jerry South and wife Barbara, sister Peggy Martin and husband Ted and brother James South and wife Betty. Martha is preceded in death by both parents, her brother George South, sister Daisy Ksionda and sister Boodie Kerr.
Martha grew up in Madill, Oklahoma and later moved to Lovington, NM. She attended Lovington High School and graduated there in 1957. Soon after high school, Martha met Allen Pickerel and later, the two were united in marriage on November 28, 1958.
While living in Lovington, Martha and Allen started their family with son Tim as Allen worked at a gasoline plant and Martha began her career as a stay-at-home Mom.
In 1961 the family moved to Eunice, NM where in 1962 son Larry arrived. Their son Terry was born in 1963 and daughter Amy was born in 1969. All the children were raised and graduated high school from Eunice High School.
Martha was a member of First Baptist Church in Eunice and enjoyed singing in the choir and raising her children to know and follow Jesus Christ.
Martha and Allen eventually retired in Eunice and enjoyed watching and spending time with their 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
In 2019 Martha and Allen moved to Lubbock while enjoying their retirement days at an independent living facility.
