Pat Dunavant Obituary

A lifelong cowboy and rancher, he was known to all as the one who could get any escaped cow back to the herd- his or anyone else's. Pat Albert Dunavant, 80, of Brownwood, Texas, died peacefully at home in Lubbock, Texas on November 11, 2023.

Pat was born on August 2, 1943, in Lubbock, Texas to Thelma and Albert Dunavant. As a young man in west Texas, he participated in Ropesville Future Farmers of America before moving to Brownwood where he played saxophone and graduated high school becoming a lifelong Brownwood Lion.

Pat returned to Ropesville and married Patti Taylor on June 1, 1963, where he farmed the land, and they started a family before moving back to Brownwood in 1972. Pat and Patti were high school sweethearts, married for 60 years.

He worked as a ranch hand for many years for just about anyone who needed him and was known for his Catahoula Leopard Dogs with whom he won several awards at dog trials over many years. A man of few words, Pat was a kind spirit who loved his family, enjoyed hunting and fishing, enjoyed a good cowboy story and loved Texas Rangers baseball.

Pat is survived by wife Patti Dunavant, daughter Patrice Reese and husband Bruce Reese, grandsons Bryan Reese and Brady Reese and great-grandson Brett Reese all of Lubbock, Texas; daughter Patsy Dunavant and wife Rémy Dunavant of Garland, Texas; brother Mike Dunavant and wife Judy Dunavant of Corsicana, Texas; and friends and family near and far.

He was preceded in death by parents Thelma and Albert Dunavant, sister Jo Dunavant, brother Ray Dunavant and son Patrick Dunavant.

Pat wishes to spend eternity on the ranch where he worked and lived. He never liked being the center of attention and per his wishes, there will be no services.
