Roena Marie (Ragan) Toombs

Roena Marie Toombs (Ragan) went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.  She was the only child of the late Riley Nolan Ragan and the late Hazel Marie Ragan (Kornele).  Roena was born in Seneca, NM on November 30, 1939.  As a child Roena also lived in Colorado and Oklahoma.  She met Elbert Larry Toombs while living in Texhoma, OK and they married in Clayton, NM on June 14,1956. The couple lived in several states and some foreign countries as her husband served in the United States Air Force.  They had three children together.

Roena enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker.  After raising her children to school age, Roena entered the work force with the Army Air Force Base Exchange at the various duty stations in which her husband was assigned. The couple moved to Guymon, Ok after her husband retired in 1978.  In 1980 the couple made Shallowater, TX their home and Roena went to work at Dillards in South Plains Mall in Lubbock, Tx. She retired from Dillards in 2001.

Roena will be remembered for her love of God, family, her country,  chocolate, and always wearing something red.  She also loved her precious fur babies Lucky and Chula. Roena was very active in her church and was a member of the 12th St. Church of Christ in Shallowater, TX  for over 40 years.

Roena was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Elbert Larry Toombs and son Larry Dale Toombs.  She is survived by her daughters Sherry Lynn (Daniel) Pittenger of Hubertus, WI, Martina Marie (Thomas) Bauer of Edwall, WA and her daughter-in-law Margarita (Larry Dale) Toombs of Carlsbad, NM.  She leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren with the 20th due to arrive in December. Although Roena was an only child she is also survived by her two remaining sister-in-laws Nancy (Bob) Toombs of Guymon, Ok and Linda (Dan) Caldwell of Campo, CO as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 12th St. Church of Christ in Shallowater, Tx  at 11 am on Saturday November 6, 2021.
