Stephen Wayne Oughton, 65, of Lubbock passed away on Wednesday, October 14, and was born on September 12, 1955 in Abington Township, Pennsylvania.
He attended Texas A&M in College Station, graduating in 1978 with a bachelors degree in Finance. After working for a few years, Steve felt called to attend the Dallas Theological Seminary and graduated in 1987 with a Masters in Theology. While his career in ministry did not come to fruition due to the need for more immediate employment, his passion for theology and Christian Ministry remained. From then on, Steve built a career as a data analyst and software engineer, working in the oil, education, transportation, insurance and government industries.
Outside of work, Steve enjoyed vacations with his family, baseball, singing, playing guitar and keeping up with current events. Additionally, Steve loved being involved with his church family and through the years, he served in various capacities namely as a volunteer with the youth, a member of the worship team and leader of adult Sunday school.
As a father and husband, he provided spiritual encouragement daily, valuable life lessons and lots of laughs.
Above all, Steve loved the Lord and his family looks forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
Services for Steve will be at 10AM October 19th at the Indiana Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Steve McMeans officiating. Burial will be at 1PM at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
